Intermediate Schools

These schools occupy a site of four acres of elevated land on the north side of Queen's Hill. The Boys' and Girls' schools are quite independent of each other, with caretakers' residence between them. Accommodation in the boys' department is provided for 140 scholars, with chemical and physical laboratories, and in the girls' department for about 160 scholars.

Scholarships, to the number of one-fifth of the accommodation, are awarded, on the value of £9 per annum, together with School text books, open to candidates not under ten and not over thirteen years, resident in Newport, and being scholars in the Elementary Schools; and of the value of £4 10s. per annum, open to candidates not under ten years, whether residents in Newport or not.
